Olivenhain is the eastern-most neighborhood in the city of Encinitas. Settled by a German colony in the 1890s, the community is characterized by gently rolling hills and a vast network of trails for horses, bicycles and pedestrians. Olivenhain real estate is unique in having nearly all of its custom-built, detached homes developed during the same period. Although the community is not located on the beach, many homes enjoy ocean views. Residents also enjoy stargazing that is unparalleled due to Olivenhain’s ‘Dark Skies Policy,’ which restricts outdoor lighting.
