The Normal Heights community was founded in 1906, and soon became one of San Diego's first "streetcar suburbs" with the development of an electric trolley route along Adams Avenue. The neighborhood is centrally located within the city of San Diego, just south of Mission Valley. Like many other urban neighborhoods north of Balboa Park, Normal Heights has a high rate of pedestrian activity. The community hosts several large events such as the Adams Avenue Street Fair, Adams Avenue Unplugged, and the Taste of Adams Avenue. Homes in the area include Craftsman cottages, bungalows, and some apartments.
